Peridot is a stone of lightness and beauty. Peridot was believed to be a stone of the sun and springtime by ancients who considered it a gift from Mother Nature. Because of this, Napoleon once made a gift of peridot to Josephine as a symbol of undying love and admiration.
Peridot is one of the few gemstones which only occurs in one variety of color; a vibrant yellow-green to a deep olive. The finest quality peridot is green with no tinge of yellow or brown. That vibrant green color can be seen in the pendant pictured by Susan Marie Phipps. This Peridot was cut by the award winning stone cutter, Larry Woods. It is formed in volcanoes and can be found in meteorites; and therefore comes in a variety of small sizes, but is rare to find in larger gemstones that are flawless in clarity.
